Here's some tech info on the Nixon Fair Database (also known as the 'Fair DB'):
The Fair DB runs on:
•
MicroSoft AccessTM 32-bit 2010 or later or MicroSoft AccessTM 2013 RunTime
•
MicroSoft Windows 7, Windows 10 or Windows 11
•
200 MByte (not GByte!) of disk space
•
One or more PCs (up to seven have been used at one time!)
The Fair DB does not:
•
For most of the year, just one PC at someone's home
•
At fair time, the Database file is best to be moved to a portable
•
At fair time, other portables can be connected via simple TCP/IP networking to share access to the data file on the main PC
•
The fastest performance comes from PC's networked with cables, not WI-FI.
The Fair DB is supported year round:
•
using Teamviewer TM Quick Support (a free program) for Remote Access
•
when at a place with a stable High Speed Internet Connection
•
best when using a voice phone call as well, but text will do.
•
between 7:30am and 9pm, 7 days of the week
The Fair DB, when using two or more PCs, is best supported by:
•
both a local person who is comfortable with:
•
basic use of firewall / routers, and
•
the Windows Control Panel and Network and Sharing Centre, and
•
support advice and services from Nixon Fair Database staff
