Getting Started
Select a portion of your 2017 fair (usually Homecraft), and then
Provide Bill Nixon with a spreadsheet of the exhibitors' names, addresses, exhibitor types and numbers
Work with a "junior" version of the Fair DB Classes/Sections/Prizes module to load the classes and sections data.  This is done by copying from your fair's Prize Book PDF, Word Processing file, or Publishing software, and pasting into the Fair DB.
Then, work with the same program to build up the prize data.
Then, enter most of the relevant Entry forms for your 2017 exhibitors.
Next, enter the Judging results that you want to test and review, again, using a "Junior" version of the Fair DB.
Then, work with Bill to define how the payouts and deductions are to be calculated.
Now, Bill will process this data for you, and provide you reports on payouts, participation, and Classes / Sections summaries.  Compare these to your current results, and decide if you wish to buy a licence of  the Nixon Fair Database.
Here's how to get started using the Nixon Fair Database (the 'Fair DB'):
Or, start with a sample file of exhibitors, classes, sections and prizes provided by Bill Nixon, and then:
Then, enter some test Entry forms, using a "Junior" version of the Fair DB.
Bill will then provide you with blank Judging Sheets, with the exhibitors listed on the sheets (which are a standard feature of the Fair DB!)
Now, hold an imaginary judging session, and make Judging decisions
Next, enter the Judging results that you want to test and review, again, using a "Junior" version of the Fair DB.
Then, work with Bill to define how the payouts and deductions are to be calculated.
Now, Bill will process this data for you, and provide you reports on payouts, participation, and Classes / Sections summaries. You do the calculations as well, and decide if you wish to buy a licence of  the Nixon Fair Database.
Either way, Bill will also provide you with some key training videos, and a few hours of on-line training.   Also, a 90 minute on-line presentation and discussion will be done, using a PC, high speed InterNet, and a speakerphone.  This will give 3 to 5 of your Society executive a very detailed look at the Nixon Fair database.
Once you decide to buy a licence, you are strongly encouraged to process as much of your 2017 fair as you can thru the database.  This will prepare for the 2018 fair, and create the comparison history, train Fair DB users, and fine-tune the calculations and payout settings.  This is best done in the winter months, when the pressure from other activities is low.

Or, if you already use a database system of some sort, then Bill Nixon will transfer one year's data from it to the Nixon Fair DB, and then you can do the same steps as if you were starting with a sample file.
