Users and Ag Societies
Some background on the Nixon Fair Database (the 'Fair DB') users:
The Fair DB is:
used by over 20 Agricultural Societies, in 2024, in Ontario
the result of an 15 year long co-operative project involving dozens of experienced fair people, and the sharing of features with all users.
used by fairs with 150 to over 800 Exhibitors
mostly run, during fair time, on 2 networked PC's,
by one key user, and 3 to 5 other persons
alongside of the persons taking in Entry Forms for Indoor Exhibits
then, in a room or area close to the Secretary's office
The Fair DB has:
been used by 12 ag societies now for 10 or more years
supported 30+ different Ag Societies thru a change of Secretary or Treasurer
grown continually because of the experiences and ideas of it's users
Several Agricultural Societies (with both a secretary and a treasurer) have created a third key position, with responsibilties to:
bring together all the fairbook changes, and produce the fairbook / prizebook
operate the Nixon Fair Database, and process the Entry Forms, Judging Results, Payouts and Summary Reports
organize the computers, networking and volunteer assistants
This person is typically an ex secretary or treasurer, who is comfortable with detailed paperwork, computers, networking and databases (but not a computer geek!).  They are also typically an ardent fair supporter with a young family.  However, in 2015, there were two 16 year olds who took on this challenge, and did very well.
This third position also allows the fair secretary to be a person that focuses on the fair and the Ag Society operations and meetings throughout the year, and is freed of the work of preparing the fairbook, and processing Entry Forms, Results, Payouts and Summary Reports.
We hope that Your Fair will join this group of Agricultural Societies.
